FX Magazine Lighting Focus
Check out our feature profile in this month’s issue of FX Magazine! Our founder James Burke spoke to FX Magazine about harnessing the power of light to transform public spaces “The role of lighting in public spaces is absolutely crucial to the concept of placemaking, now more so than ever.”
This was particularly effective in our Manchester Lamps project, with its five playfully oversized domestic lamps, which have cleverly bridged the gap between form and function. The project has transformed a previously unloved city centre area into a vibrant social space, inviting interaction and providing a unique meeting point for the people of Manchester to sit together and connect.
Winter Garden – Situated at The Christie’s Proton Beam Therapy Centre in Manchester, Winter Garden is a cluster of pyramidal forms that play with light and perforated materials to evoke in the space a sense of being among nature.
Coca Cola – This neon artwork, using vintage glass Coca-Cola bottles, was part of a three storey high double-sided feature wall incorporating handmade installations, classic memorabilia, and retro advertising to celebrate the brand’s heritage.
Contours – Contours is a site-specific light installation sitting at the heart of Tableau Software’s Seattle HQ, exploring themes of nature and discovery in a nod to the data visualisation techniques Tableau is famed for.
Timeless – Suspended forty meters above the ground, sixty individual letters hang in the vast atrium space at Senator House on the River Thames, London.
Submotion – Inspired by the flow of water from the River Fleet that runs beneath Farringdon, this lighting feature drifts through 20 Farringdon Street.
