Kay Gasei only started creating art during the lockdowns of 2020/21, but he’s already blowing up the art scene in London and beyond. Inspired by mythology and folklore from Europe, Africa and Asia, Kay’s work is evocative and abstract, a beautifully complex mix of figures, colour and paint strokes.

We were lucky enough to work with Kay for part of our recent project at Knotel’s ‘The Workclub at Old Sessions House’, so we took a visit to his studio in West London to have a chat and see him at work.

“I draw whatever is on my mind – I always have a sketchbook on me, and then think about how to turn that sketch into a bigger piece.”
