In Conversation: Williamson Brasfield

By
Oscar Ralf

“To me, making art is a spiritual practice.” Williamson Brasfield is a highly inquisitive, introspective artist. He finds in collaboration a way of expanding his own definitions of art, and a sense of community. Rooted in a practice that is at once research-driven and materially oriented, Williamson works across painting, photography, and sound to examine the relationship between perception and notions of time, presence, and interconnection.

Our New York studio hosted Williamson during the summer of 2025, as part of our ongoing collaborative residency program alongside Project Art Distribution. Filmed over a handful of days in New York, our conversation with Williamson takes a shallow dive into his world, and teases his eventual installation of works at our studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn.

"Collaborations have always been a way to push me out of my comfort zone, to expand my own definitions of art."
